Carlyle Compressor Facility Named Top North American Plant
IndustryWeek magazine in the U.S. named Carrier Corporation's Carlyle Compressor Stone Mountain facility one of the 10 best plants in North America. Winners of the 2009 Best Plant competition are selected based on performance metrics as well as dedication to continually improving people, processes and performance. This is the second consecutive year that a Carrier facility has been named an IndustryWeek Best Plant.
"Despite possibly the roughest economic conditions many have faced, this year's winners continued to pursue excellence in manufacturing that results from strong leadership, an engaged workforce and outstanding operational and improvement strategies. Their leading-edge efforts to increase competitiveness, enhance customer satisfaction, and create stimulating work environments are to be applauded," said Jill Jusko, IndustryWeek Best Plants director.
Ray Moncini, senior vice president, Carrier Operations, said, "It is a tremendous honor to receive this acknowledgement. It confirms our teams' commitment to excellence in continued improvement in manufacturing and exceeding customer expectations."

China to Step into the Energy-saving Era - New Energy Standard Passes Technical Examination
A new draft of the Chinese national standard, 'GB 12021.3-2009*: the minimum allowable values of the energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for room air conditioners (RACs ),' just passed a technical examination conference held by the National Technical Committee on Energy Fundamentals and Management of Standardization Administration of China on November 26 in Beijing.
Thirty-five specialists from the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC), China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS), General Machinery Research Institute (GMRI), China Household Electrical Appliances Association (CHEAA), and leading domestic and global manufacturers attended the conference.
The new draft is on the minimum allowable values of energy efficiency, energy efficiency grades, and examination methods for non-inverter air conditioners with cooling capacities lower than 14,000 W that operate in the temperate zone, where the maximum temperature is 43°C. According to the new draft, the energy efficiency ratios (EERs) of non-inverter RACs are classified into 3 grades. The minimum allowable value for EER of single-package air conditioners is 2.9 and the minimum allowable values for EER of split type air conditioners are 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 for products with cooling capacity below 4,500W, between 4,500W and 7,100W and between 7,100W and 14,000W, respectively.
