Sharp Introduces Residential Solar Power Generation Systems
For Homes with Small Roof Areas for which Installation Has Been Difficult, as well as Roofs with Complex Shapes
Provides the Optimal Design to Match Individual Customer Needs for Installed System Output, Cost, and Exterior Design
Sharp Corporation will introduce into the Japanese market Residential Solar Power Generation Systems Compatible with "Roofit Design" that adopt a new design system that enables efficient installation of photovoltaic modules on a wide range of roof shapes with various roof surface areas. Sales of these systems will begin first in Tokyo.
This system enables solar power generation systems to be installed on small roofs and on roofs with complex shapes, where installation has been difficult with conventional systems. In addition, the adoption of "Roofit Design" will broaden available design options, making it possible to meet the needs of a wide range of customers in terms of installed system output, cost, and exterior design.
The Japanese market for residential solar power generation systems is expected to grow dramatically, reflecting the impact of a government subsidy program reintroduced in January 2009. In particular, the market in Tokyo is forecast to reach a size that will account for one-fifth of all residential solar power generation systems sold around the country thanks to a subsidy program based on the use of tradable Green Power Certification System, which will go into operation in April 2009. By combining at least two photovoltaic modules with different shapes, these residential solar power generation systems enable efficient installations even on small roofs where installation space is limited or on roofs with complex shapes. Sharp will first introduce this system in Tokyo, where many such roofs exist, and will gradually expand sales throughout Japan.

CLIMATIZACION 2009 Successfully Held
This year's Madrid Trade Show was under the spell of the worldwide economic crisis and specifically also under the one affecting Europe and Spain in a very pronounced way.
Specifically, we have found that the total space rented for the exposition, which 2 weeks prior to the inauguration was about 20% less than in the year 2007 (47179.5 sqm vs 58781.5 sqm respectively), by the time of the inauguration must have been even less, due to last minute cancellations, of which there were several. Thus, the Trade Show in the airconditioning sector, for which 2 pavillions were assigned, was void of some of the largest airconditioning firms, like Carrier, Toshiba, LG, Lennox-Refac, Climaveneta-Topclima, Trane, Hitsa-Topair, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Johnson Control (York), Electra-Airwell, Sanyo (Panasonic Stand made no reference to Sanyo at all), Hisense, Galanz, Chigo and some other "usual" attendees, while some others consolidated their heating with air-conditioning, like Vaillant-Saunier Duval, Ferroli, Fagor. Thus, the magnificence and richness of prior years was drastically decreased, but still and all, there were many new companies present for the first time, although mostly with little stands.

China Refrigeration 2009 to Open on April 5
In 2009, China is standing at a crossroads, experiencing many crucial changes together with the whole world. The economic crisis has severely impacted the economy and it will definitely continue for certain length of time. In facing this crisis, the core issue for the industry is how manufactures and enterprises react.
On April 5-7, China Refrigeration 2009, the 20th International Exhibition for Refrigeration, Air-conditioning, Heating and Ventilation, Frozen Food Processing, Packaging and Storage (hereafter CR'09) will be held at the China Import & Export Fair Complex, Guangzhou. As one of the most significant expositions in the HVAC&R industry, the success of this event will be highly meaningful under today's particular circumstances. The theme of CR'09 has been set as "Firm confidence by being with you all (by facing crisis)," which shows the strong determination of the organizer to take responsibility and face the current difficulties with the entire industry.
The exhibition industry is like a mirror, reflecting the development of the economy. It certainly cannot avoid being influenced by the economic crisis. Nevertheless, almost all the leading HVAC&R players will still participate in the upcoming CR'09

EU Recognizes Heat Pumps as Renewable Energy
Expanding the definition of renewable energy sources to aerothermal and hydrothermal energy sources
According to the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), the voice of the heating, on December 17, 2008 the European Parliament adopted the eagerly awaited EU Directive on the Promotion of Renewable Energy Sources. The final compromise text recognizes for the first time aerothermal and hydrothermal energy as sources of renewable energy under EU law.
Under the new legislation each member state should increase its share of renewable energies.
EPEE was delighted that the use of aerothermal energy (energy in the air) and hydrothermal energy (energy stored in water) will now be promoted as part of the new EU policy on renewable energy sources.
Frans Hoorelbeke, Chairman of EPEE, commented "The potential of aerothermal and hydrothermal energy sources is enormous and can greatly contribute to Member States' success in reaching their renewable energy targets of 20% by 2020."
Geothermal, aerothermal and hydrothermal energy is currently exploited using heat pumps, which were recognized as such "renewable energy technologies" by the EU, alongside wind turbines and solar panels.

Sanyo to Build New HIT Solar Cell Production Facilities
Sanyo Electric has announced that it will increase production capacity for HIT solar cells by building new production facilities inside the grounds of its Nishikinohama Factory in Osaka, which is already a production base for Sanyo's proprietary HIT solar cells, to meet active demand for solar power generation equipment around the world.
The new building construction is expected to reach completion by October 2009. While reviewing market conditions, production is expected to start immediately to position the company to respond to market demands, and thereafter production will be reviewed with an eye to increasing the facilities' productivity as necessary.
Currently, production for Sanyo's globally recognizable HIT solar cells is performed at Nishikinohama Factory as well as the Shimane Plant of Shimane Sanyo Electric in Shimane prefecture, with a combined production capacity total of 340 MW. While augmenting the Nishikinohama Factory, overall production capacity will also be increased by adding production equipment to the existing Shimane Plant with the goal of reaching around 600 MW by the end of fiscal 2010.
