November 21 - Renewable Energy at Chillventa Nuremberg 2008

Rising oil prices, shortages of raw materials and climate change: No wonder everyone is talking about renewable energy at the moment. This also includes the heat pump with its enormous growth rates throughout Europe. NurernbergMesse has recognized this trend and with Chillventa Nuremberg 2008 has created an industry event at which heat pump technology is a main pillar together with refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation technology. The German Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Society DKV has already organized a symposium this year - also in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg - on the subject of "Possibilities and limits of heat pumps in existing private and commercial buildings". 200 participants from eleven countries were interested in the presentations given by the 24 international speakers from well-known companies and institutions.
The sales figures for heat pumps for room heating have more than doubled in Germany from 2005 to 2006, France has registered 50 % growth, Austria 45 %, Switzerland about 30 % and Sweden 20 %. Such growth rates are naturally encouraging. They do, however, carry the risk that quality will suffer, as the pressure of competition between the manufacturers is great and plant assemblers need suitable expertise.

November 21 - Japan, U.S. Agree To Work on Post-Kyoto Regime

Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and U.S. President George W. Bush said Friday they have agreed to work together to build a new regime to fight global warming beyond the expiration in 2012 of the Kyoto Protocol.
The agreement reached at their summit in Washington centers on the two countries' cooperation in establishing a ''Bali Roadmap that will advance formal negotiations on an effective post-2012 framework'' when a key U.N. conference is held in Bali, Indonesia, in December, a joint statement released by both governments said.
It seeks a deal at a U.S.-led climate change forum in 2008, to be followed by a final accord under the United Nations no later than 2009 with major greenhouse gas emitters such as China, India and the United States included, the statement said.
Japan and the United States also agreed to collaborate to ''make tangible progress toward the establishment of an effective framework'' in the post-2012 period at next year's Group of Eight summit that Japan will host in Hokkaido's Lake Toya area.
The U.S.-led forum held the first talks in Washington in September. At the talks, Bush made it clear that it wants to expedite negotiations for a post-Kyoto framework under the United Nations.

November 17 - EU F-Gas Committee Adopts Implementing Measures

The EU Fluorinated Gases (F-Gas) Regulation covers the containment and recovery of F-Gases by equipment operators. The regulation - which went into effect on July 4 -- also sets forth a range of obligations, including timely repair of refrigerant leaks; leak detection and reporting for equipment maintenance and repairs.
On Oct. 12, the EU F-Gas Regulatory Committee adopted implementing measures on labeling, reporting and leak detection for stationary refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump equipment. These measures are part of the ongoing process to refine the F-Gas regulation.
The Commission said labels should reflect the language where the product is placed on the market for the first time, not where the product is intended for sale. The entry into force date for labeling is now April 1, 2008, which gives the industry five months to comply.

November 17 - Danfoss Introduces Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Danfoss has introduced the newest extension of its product portfolio, brazed plate heat exchangers. Danfoss brazed plate heat exchangers are tailored for refrigeration and air conditioning systems, can be customized for specific application requirements, and offer an environmentally responsible solution for a wide range of applications. Each brazed plate heat exchanger is engineered to add value over its lifetime, providing superior performance and cost-effectiveness.
Each brazed plate heat exchanger consists of a series of thin, corrugated metal plates that are brazed together to improve heat transfer efficiency. The plates are compressed together in a rigid frame to create an arrangement of parallel flow channels, in which one high-viscosity fluid travels through the odd-numbered channels, and the other high-viscosity fluid flows through the even.
"We are continuously striving to develop and provide environmentally friendly and energy-efficient products," says Peter J. D'Ambrosio, strategic global marketing manager-heat transfer, Danfoss Inc. "Our brazed plate heat exchangers are space-saving, offer a highly flexible design for manufacturing, and require less use of refrigerants."

November 15 - UN & US Experts Warn: Global Warming is Threat

Two influential think tanks in Washington warn, in an extensive report, about the challenges to global stability that climate change is likely to pose. Furthermore, UN experts urge action to limit impact of global warming on the developing world, before a key UN meeting in December.
Latest studies by American and UN experts analyse the potential consequences of climate change on global security and its impact on developed nations. Calls for new global agreements thus intensify ahead of the key U.N. Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia from Dec. 3 - 14.
Washington Think tanks Report
Under a worst-case scenario, climate change's consequences "would destabilise virtually every aspect of modern life", according to experts from two leading think tanks, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies and the Centre for a New American Security (CNAS). Their joint report "The Age of Consequences: The Foreign Policy and National Security Implications of Global Climate Change", released on Monday 5 November, examines three different scenarios and associated consequences of global warming.

November 13 - U.S. Bankruptcy Court Approves Fedders Notification Procedures

November 25, 2007 -- Fedders Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of air treatment products, said that the U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware has approved notification procedures that will enable the Company to preserve certain potentially valuable tax attributes.
The Court order requires any person or entity that currently is or becomes a Substantial Equityholder of Fedders Corporation securities to file with the Court and also notify the company and the official committee of unsecured creditors (the "Committee"). A Substantial Equityholder is any person or entity that beneficially owns or seeks to own at least 1,328,799 shares, or approximately 4.5 percent, of Fedders common stock.
The order also requires Substantial Equityholders to notify the Court, the company and the Committee 15 calendar days prior to selling or otherwise transferring Fedders common stock in order to allow for an objection to any proposed sale or transfer on the grounds such transfer may adversely affect the value of the company's tax loss carryforwards and/or other tax attributes. In addition, the order prohibits any sale or transfer of Fedders preferred shares by shareholders of any size during this time absent further court order.

November 10 - Sanyo Releases New, High-Efficiency Chiller-Heaters

In mid-November, Sanyo Electric Co. released 16 models (100 - 800 RT) of "F Series PE" absorption chiller-heaters capable of attaining up to a 15% reduction in running cost due to improvements in partial load efficiency.
They are designed to economically replace the existing equipment.
While contributing to a reduction in environmental load, the F Series PE can also realize a reduction in yearly running costs. Sanyo aims to sell a total of 30 units in the coming year.
By adopting high-performance tubes in its evaporators and absorbers, the new series has improved heat exchanger performance. Done mainly by installing a heat recovery unit in parallel with a high-temperature heat exchanger, the company has improved cycle efficiency during partial load operation, thus enabling a about 15% reduction in yearly running cost compared to the previous models.

November 07 - Fujitsu General to Build New Plant in China for VRF

Fujitsu General Central Air Conditioning (Wuxi) Co.
