April 04 - Carrier Expands Research in DeWitt

Carrier Corp. today announced it will invest up to $2 million in lab upgrades and target to add 25 new engineering positions at its DeWitt, N.Y. campus starting this month. This investment is to prepare Carrier's commercial rooftop air conditioning product lines for the U.S. Environmental Protection Administration's requirement to phase out HCFC-22, an ozone depleting refrigerant, in new equipment before 2010.

"I'm pleased that our engineering center in Syracuse was selected for this investment, which further enhances our research and development focus for the site," said Geraud Darnis, Carrier president.

"Syracuse is the right place to conduct the research and development for this important program," said Greg Powers, Carrier vice president of Engineering. "We will leverage our existing technical knowledge base and significant laboratory facilities to expand environmental technologies for these new products."

In May 2004, Carrier designated Syracuse as one of its global lead design centers to conduct research and development for a broad range of air conditioning and refrigeration products. With approximately 300 engineering staff, Syracuse represents the largest engineering location for Carrier in the world.

April 03 - Sanyo Announces Washing Machine with 'Air Wash' Function

Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., based on its 'Think GAIA' vision, and using 'tackle global environmental problems' as a keyword, is committed to conducting business utilizing its proprietary water circulation and recycling technology applications, in its mission to tackle global environmental problems. The functions of the'AQUA', a washer/dryer created with the intention of becoming a key technology focusing on the importance of conserving the world's water resources, have been even further developed, further strengthened and advanced its functions. The 'Air Wash' function, able to disinfect and deodorize items previously un-washable through the power of air (ozone), has expanded its applications to include leather, silk and other temperature-sensitive items, and also is able to remove dirt and stains with the new and improved "Air Wash Wide" function.

Through the power of air (ozone), the 'Aqualoop' water recycle function has evolved to become the 'Aqualoop Wide' which is able to purify and disinfect*2 bath water and reduce the amount of tap water used to a mere eight liters. This evolved2nd generation 'AQUA' once again revolutionizes the way clothes are washed and dried.
