December 30 - Carrier Launches Aquaforce Chiller Range in Middle East
Carrier Corporation recently announced the launch of its latest air cooled
chiller range, the 30XA AquaforceTM, in the Middle East. 30XA Aquaforce is part
of a worldwide programme of new product developments and has already enjoyed
considerable success following its 2005 release in the US.
The chiller with screw compressors uses non-ozone depleting refrigerant R134a
and new micro-channel heat exchanger coil technology. In tests, Aquaforce
achieved record part load seasonal energy efficiencies, "IPLV" of 0.76
kW/ton (4.6 kW/kW) in average.
Highlighting the value addition to the regional HVAC/R industry, Aftab Khan,
Managing Director, Building Systems & Services, Middle East, said, "The
chiller suits the extreme climatic conditions in the Middle East. 30XA Aquaforce
comprises a unique microchannel heat exchanger which enables it to operate with
up to 30% less refrigerant."
30XA Aquaforce is being introduced by Carrier to governments, contractors,
real estate companies and consultants in the region. "The industry's
initial response to its energy efficient and non-ozone depleting features has
been remarkable," Khan said.

December 26 - Turkish HVAC&R Shown at Sodex Antalya 2006
For the last 4 years, Turkey's GDP grew by almost 34% on a cumulative basis.
Turkey's GDP and GNP increased by 7.4% and 7.6 % respectively in 2005. This
makes Turkey one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Turkey is
expected to grow by more than 5% a year in the next 5 -10 years.
In this fascinating economic growth, construction sector is the
"locomotive". The construction sector boomed in 2005, with a growth
rate of 21.5 percent, outpacing the national average of 5.5 percent. This strong
trend continued this year with construction sector growth at 19.3 percent for
the first half of 2006.
In addition, Turkish contractors are also valuable sources of orders for
equipment and materials for the projects they are carrying out in Russia,
Central Asia, Middle East and have landed future contract for the huge
redevelopment projects in Afghanistan.
Turkish HVAC industry is clearly benefiting from this boom. The boom
activates the demand in HVAC sector. Mr. Huseyin Yuksel, the executive director
of ISKID - Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturer's Association-
affirms that Turkish HVAC&R market grows by 4 times more than Turkish
general economy. Mr.Yuksel mentions that the indusrty's annual growth is about
%20. Air conditioning is not a luxury, but a need and Turkish customer has
realized this fact, he adds.
December 21 - Sanyo Invests in New Solar Cell Production
Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. will considerably expand the HIT Solar Photovoltaic Cell production capacity at the Nishikinohama Plant (Osaka, Japan) and Shimane Sanyo Electric Shimane, in order to respond to the huge and growing demand for solar photovoltaic systems.
Sanyo produces its HIT Solar Photovoltaic Cells at two major locations: Nishikinohama
Plant and Shimane Sanyo, with a total production capacity of 165 MW (as current of
December 19, 2006). In Fiscal Year 2007, by investing approximately 9 billion yen in new
production equipment at the Nishikinohama Plant, Sanyo will increase cell production
capacity at the plant from its current level of 115 MW to 210 MW. Therefore the total
production capacity in Fiscal Year 2007, including that of Shimane Sanyo, will increase to
260 MW.
In Fiscal Year 2008, Sanyo will invest approximately 10 billion yen in Shimane Sanyo,
and establish new production facilities with a view to start operations in September 2008. As a
result, cell production capacity at Shimane Sanyo will increase from the current level of 50
MW to 140 MW. Accordingly, total cell production capacity, including that of the
Nishikinohama Plant, will increase to 350 MW.
