October 30 - Midea Develops Bio Filter & Fresco Tech
Midea, the pioneer of the Chinese AC, is always devoted itself to achieving higher position.
Several years' development has brought Midea Aircon not only to a complete R&D circle, ranging from the research of applicable technology, product development, lab testing, but also their R&D team of 670 engineers, post-doctorate scientific research workshops, cutting- edge CAD Center, CAID, CAD, PDM systems and the quick molding equipments, which has outdone the other AC manufacturers in China and can rival any AC manufacturers in the world.
To rank the Top 3 AC manufacturers in the world within 3-5 years is Midea's current goal. To reach this goal, Midea has made every effort to improve its product quality, enlarge its product range and explore its global market; meanwhile it has undertaken the responsibility of creating a harmonious living condition for human beings.
Midea has recently developed Bio Filter and Fresco Tech: Bio Filter consists of a special kind of biological enzyme and Eco filter. Eco filter catches very small dust particles in the air and inactivates bacteria, fungi and microbe. Biological enzyme will combine with bacteria and gradually dissolve their cell wall, then cause the bacteria to die, effectively tackling the problem of re-pollution of traditional air conditioner.
Bio Filter has great power of sterilization. Over 95% bacteria are killed and 99% dust of less than 0.3m m is trapped by the Bio filter, which achieves a combined effect of sterilization and dust elimination.

October 20 - Possibility of Domestic Production of GHP System Acs
GHP system ACs introduced two years ago into Korea are widely diffusing into schools, office buildings, large stores, etc. However, since all of their components are imported, it is pointed out that they should be domestically produced as urgently as possible.
GHP system ACs use gas instead of electricity, and about 1,500 units were installed last year. According to an estimate made by the industry, about 4,000 units will be installed, thus forming a market valued at 300 ~ 400 billion won.
Since demand for GHPs is increasing rapidly this year, makers handling them are increasing, including not only AC specialists such as Century, Sae-Won and Doo-Woo, but also Samsung, Rinnai and LG Cable. By using LNG or LGP to turn the engine and drive the compressor, GHPs circulate refrigerant to perform cooling in summer and heating in winter.
Being installed easily, they consume dramatically less electric power than ordinary ACs. Therefore, demand for GHPs is expected to increase noticeably for use at schools, office buildings, large stores, etc.
All core components and technologies are of Japanese, and it is currently difficult to produce GHP system ACs by Korean technologies. An industry spokesman explained, "It is difficult to make huge investment to realize domestic production, since GHP uses a special engine, i.e. low-speed high-torque engine, not intended for automobiles."
However, a consortium of Korean Gas Corporation, LG Cable, Century, etc. has been developing their own GHP system AC since several years ago, and it is expected that domestically produced units may be unveiled from LG Cable and Century.
October 19 - Kerosene Space Heater Business Sets off
Kerosene space heater business for 2003 has set off. Already in a big way new models are displayed at the store in the cold regions such as Hokkaido and Tohoku. October 2 - Power Consumption in Shanghai Records All-Time High
Due to a long spell of heat waves, power consumption in Shanghai is increasing rapidly, and daily power consumption reached an all-time high on July 4 with 12.7 million kW, up 320,000 kW over the previous record.
In Shanghai, more than 1,300 companies implemented power saving measures during peak hours, thus "making way" for power consumption by citizens. These measures led to 280,000 kW reduction of power load, thereby alleviating the impact of power shortages.
According to a spokesman of electric power companies in Shanghai, a long spell of hot summer days accelerated AC uses in Shanghai, so that the electric power load jumped 4 million kW over that in usual years. All power generating units in Shanghai were put to full-scale operation with the highest capacity (9.45 million kW).
However, it is becoming difficult to satisfy power requirements in Shanghai by the city's own power supplying capacity alone. Thus, the entire electric power network in the eastern part of China supported Shanghai with 3.5 million kW of power supply.
In view of the rapid increases in power consumption, Shanghai City's electric power department has prepared 3,000-staff system to respond to the troubles related to power consumption.
